A  VISIT  TO   BATH

GREEN  PARK  STATION

Oh former glory- creamy yellow

(No more the trains to sleepy Wellow)

Dark tunnels hewn from solid rock

(No longer coal trains to Radstock).

Eating chips with salt and vinegar

I think of summits crest at Binegar

Masbury and those Mendip Hills

Captured – many photo stills.

No more – remembered fondly – “Pines”

(in 62 diverted lines)

Chilcompton for an Abbey School

Home to Benedictine Rule.

The Poet paints from woeful palette

(No more the trains to Shepton Mallet)

And through the groves of oak and beech

Ghostly junction – Evercreech.

Where railway tracks one made their mark

(Now a Sainsbury’s shopping park)

Under cover – lined with cars

Booking Hall – Converted bars.

I pause awhile to take a rest

(No longer trains to Bournemouth West)

I close my eyes and gently dream

The vanished sounds of climbing steam.
